What is a Safety Management System?
A Safety Management System, or SMS for short, is described by Transport Canada as a business-like approach to safety. Blue Sky Airways’ SMS, approved by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), is headed up by our Safety Manager. It is the responsibility of the Safety Manager to ensure that all day to day operations of the company are carried out in a safe manner.
Part of the SMS involves promoting a safety conscious culture, in which employees are encouraged to identify any potential hazards to ensure they are safely managed. Our safety reporting system allows pilots and ground crew to raise any potential safety issues with the Safety Manager or CEO allowing us to continually improve how we do business and maintain our impeccable safety record for our customers.
Our Safety Management System ensures that monthly safety meetings are held between staff to identify and solve any items raised and ensure that our high standards are being upheld.
